Can you seperate art from the artist?

A rather philosophical question which also applies to the culture of Hip Hop.
Is it possible to like the music of someone who has an utterly repulsive peronality? And is it vice versa acceptable to not credit someone for their potentially skilfull tracks just because you dislike their character?
